I am a fifth year teacher. I have spent all five of my years at Morningside Elementary in Great Falls, Montana. This is my first year teaching fourth grade. Previously, I was a third grade teacher. I am almost finished with my degree at Lesley. On top of being a full-time teacher and a grad student, I am also a mommy of an almost three-year-old little boy and two stepdaughters and one stepson. We will be making our family official, as I am getting married in June!
Educator Toolkit
Has anyone ever seen the Journal of Special Education Technology? Just from looking at the index, it seems like it has everything we have been talking about and more!
Your brochure includes really good resources. It is well organized into categories. It is easy to understand. One thing I would add is maybe a brief paragraph defining ADD & ADHD for parents. Great work!
Your brochure provides a lot of really good information and I like that it provides a good description of the resources. The only thing that I think might help it a little would be to utilize the back page for your references and your name and class. This would give you more room to possibly make the text a little bigger and easier to read. This could also be a place to put the paragraph that Allan suggested, and it wouldn't disrupt your flow at all. Overall great work.
I thought your presentation did a good job of giving a general overview of what exactly assistive technology is. I like how you broke down the functions of assistive technology into environment, communication, writing, reading, learning, and math. In my presentation I just lumped them all together and by breaking the technology into categories, the presentation really enhanced with my understanding of how assistive technology helps students.
Your VoiceThread was very clear and easy to understand. As I was listening, I was imagining if/when you actually share this with your colleagues. I predict they will come away feeling like they have a much better understanding of AT, and with your handout, they would have some totally do-able ideas to try with their students, all broken down by category. Thanks for sharing and I would encourage you to share with the other teachers at your school!
Your presentation was well done. The definition of assistive technology is a great way to start your presentation. The different areas to utilize assistive technologies are helpful for your colleagues to see how assistive technologies can be used in different subjects. Great job!
Jenn I didn't even think to add the FOSS website to my toolkit and I use it at least once a week. I finally got to see how "dragon speak" works. My brother-in-law uses it. I think this would work great during the writing assessment instead of having a scribe for those students! Thanks for sharing!
Your toolkit has a lot of great resources. I am familiar with the MonTECH website and the physical location itself as i had 2 family members that worked for them. It is an amazing resource and they do great things for students that need AT. I can't think of a better resource in Montana than MonTECH. I can't see anything off hand that needs to be added, so great job.
