I am a middle school teacher in Maine. I am fortunate to work in a state where all middle school students are provided with a personal MacBook. Before teaching middle school, I taught 5th grade for 10 years. I am getting close to finishing the Technology in Education Masters through Lesley. 2 more classes after this one! My husband is a K-12 Tech. Integrator - we love working together in the same district and having the same schedule, not to mention interests! Our two kids, ages 3 and 9, keep us busy!
Educator Toolkit
Here is a link to my Educator Toolkit. Please let me know if you have trouble opening the link - I made the toolkit on Google Docs and published it to the web to try and help people avoid having to download another document. Hope it works! Thanks for checking it out.
I really like how you focused in on one subject and found all kinds of resources and information. The resources that you did find seemed very interesting. I checked out that Idea sketch and that seemed like an effective resource to use on the iPad. I found the research you provided on iPads and dyslexia quite fascinating. There are so many educational apps you can use on iPads, I think this was a great topic to choose. I think iPads and tablets can really be the future of education. My school just bought a class set of iPads so this brochure inspired and informed me to maybe do a lesson using them in the near future.
I thought that you presentation was very informative. I think that teachers would greatly benefit from listening to the information you provided. It is good that you went over UDL, what exactly assistive technology is, NIMAS, and the checklist that you have provided. That checklist was a really good resource when thinking about ways to implement and identify assistive technology. Checklists seem to clarify certain topics and I thought the checklist was a valuable tool in your presentation. I also thought that your takeaway handout had some valuable materials and was a good summary of your presentation.
Gayle, I thought your toolkit was great! I like how you presented it with what it is and then what it does. Putting it into a chart made it easy to follow. I found your tools would work with some of my students and wrote them down. Thank you for sharing!
Very nice use of Google Doc. I love this program as students who do not have access to Word now can word process from home. It also is good for the student who keeps losing their flash drive

Thanks Bryan - I can't imagine teaching without Google Docs! It really has changed the way I teach.
